Amendments requiring reporting on what happens at the time the poison is ingested and that the death certificate list the true cost of death have been defeated by voice vote, as has a third amendment, whose details I don’t remember.
An amendment to clarify that a patient whose assisted suicide fails would be not be excluded from insurance coverage of further health care has been debated and is ready for a vote. There was a move by the presenters of the bill for a recess to add a version of this language to it, but that was denied. A roll call vote is now taking place. The amendment was defeated. One member explained that his vote for the amendment was based on his belief that the adoption of assisted suicide is the precursor to health care rationing.
