On December 1, 2011, the BBC published a statement from a spokesperson for the British Medical Association. The statement reiterates the physicians’ group’s long-standing opposition to assisted suicide and expresses its continued support for current British law , which makes the act of assisting in suicide a criminal offense. Here it is:
“The BMA is opposed to assisted suicide and to doctors taking a role in any form of assisted dying. We support the current law and are not seeking any change in UK legislation on this issue.”
