According to an article in the British Columbia newspaper The Province, the federal government government of Canada has today filed court arguments challenging a British Columbia court decision finding a right to assistance in suicide and to euthanasia if a person is unable to commit suicide on his or her own.
According to the article, which can be read online at http://www.theprovince.com/court+Doctor+assisted+suicide+demeans+life+feds+argue+appeal+Gloria+Taylor+ruling/7447529/story.html#ixzz2ALZqudXI, “In documents filed with the B.C. Court of Appeal, the government says the law reflects a reasonable belief that allowing assisted suicide would put vulnerable people at risk of being coerced or even forced to end their lives.”
Reasonable indeed.
