From listening to the debate, we believe the Cummings amendment appears is a significant improvement over the Galbraith/Hartwell amendment approved yesterday. It makes it quite clear that this protections afforded under the statute that the amendment would add are for doctors who are prescribing medication with the intent to relieve pain and suffering, not with the intent of aiding a patient in committing suicide.
