This was in yesterday’s Rutland Herald:
Kill the bill, not the citizens
I first encountered “death with dignity,” more appropriately termed physician-assisted suicide, legislation as a high school intern in the Vermont Statehouse and to this day remain strongly opposed to the legislative initiative.
I explained to legislators at the time that I have lost peers to suicide. I couldn’t imagine living in a state with a precedent that gives up on life.
This legislation has been considered session after session as early as 1995 with H.335. The sneaky supermajority in Montpelier even tried throwing it into an unrelated bill at the end of last session and still couldn’t pass it.
Why? Because Vermont is better than this bill. That’s why year after year our citizens live and this bill dies.
