NOW is the time to call your representative. Emails are acceptable, but calls are more effective; and the weekend is the time to find your rep at home. Contact information is available here: http://www.leg.state.vt.us/legdir/districts.cfm?Body=H.
Tell him or her that you do not want legal assisted suicide in Vermont.
For talking points, read
Donna Scott’s letter to the Burlington Free Press
Oregon Doctor Ken Stevens’ testimony before the Vermont House Human Services Committee
Disability Rights Activist John Kelly’s testimony
True Dignity will be posting more testimony as we get it, so keep checking the website.
There will be a public hearing from 5:30-7:30 pm on Tuesday, April 16. Sign-ups for testifying begin at 5 pm. We have heard that testimony will be limited to two minutes in length, so prepare beforehand. It would be very helpful for the representatives to hear new voices and see new faces, so bring like-minded friends if you can. In 2007, we saw the House defeat an assisted suicide bill because of public pressure. We can make this happen again.
Please share this in any way you can.
